Radical scavenging activity of algal species
Emad ShalabyThere is emerging interest in the use of naturally occurring antioxidants (e.g micro and macroalgae) for the preservation of foods and in the management of a number of pathophysiological conditions, most of which involve free radical damage. The implication of oxidative stress in the etiology and progression of several acute and chronic clinical disorders has led to the suggestion that antioxidants can have health benefits as prophylactic agents. the current book discuss different antioxidant compounds from algal species and its mode of action in addition, some algal products as antioxidant.

Free Radical Scavenging Assay The free radical scavenging activity of the synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticle and the crude algal extract was determined by employing the following methods. DPPH Spectrophotometric Assay [5] A methanolic solution of 0.5 ml of DPPH (0.4 mM) was added to 1 ml of the different concentrations

phenol and flavonoid content, DPPH free radical scavenging capacity, nitric oxide activity, iron chelation activity, and reducing power activity. Total phenol and flavonoid content were found to be high in both algae. Ethyl acetate extracts of both algae were found to exhibit significant antioxidant activity. Ethyl
